Vassa Blessings.
This Vassa (July – October) was a good starting point for Passaddhi Vihara. Ayyā Suvijjānā and Ayya Niyyānika felt connected with the community through Dhamma sharing online, teaching at other venues, as well as Tuesday Almsrounds and people offering meals at the vihara.
The vihara became a legal entity through the support of Sianita Natalia as the first Treasurer and Andrew Paterson as a Passaddhi Vihara Support Foundation Board Director.
It was good to connect with other monastics in the area at their Almsgiving celebrations at Parayana Vihara and, prior to Vassa, Clear Mountain Monastery. It was also nice to have two group Forest Walk / Meditation days during Vassa.
Additionally, the resident bhikkhunīs each got three weeks of retreat while the other bhikkhunī supported through maintaining the usual vihara duties. We also read Dhamma and/or chanted together nearly every day outside of solo retreat times.
The mix of quiet and community, renunciation and support has deeply nourished our practice and gladdened our hearts.
After the Vassa is a time of community connection and is an active period in monastic life. See more below.

Time Change (NEW HOURS)
The bhikkhunīs follow the tradition of finishing their meal before solar noon. With the change from Daylight Savings to Standard Time, this means they need to finish eating by 12 noon.
To facilitate this they are happy to pick up meals at local restaurants near the 41 bus line that are open at or before 11 am.
Ways of supporting:
-
Come in person and offer a meal at the vihara, at or before 11 am.
-
Purchase a meal (or gift card) through a nearby restaurant for pickup or delivery.
-
Meet the bhikkhunīs on alms round.
