Vision for The Next Phase of Passaddhi Vihara

Vision for the Future

Join us in fostering the long-term vision for Passaddhi Vihara.

For the monastic community to grow and for deeper community engagement to flourish, we need a monastery.   This will include a dedicated place for Dhamma practice and places for both gathering and seclusion.

Experienced supporters suggested we purchase a property rather than look for a larger rental. This makes it possible for a property to be adapted to the needs of a monastic community, including a meditation hall. The growth of Passaddhi Vihara is intended to be at a sustainable pace that can carry the community for decades to come.

Given current market conditions, and the relative cost of renting versus purchasing, the Passaddhi Vihara Support Foundation is open to acquiring a modest property with two or three structures.

One possibility is to repurpose a three‑bedroom (or larger) home with a garage, detached shop, or studio that could be converted into a meditation hall. Ideally, the property would be at least two acres, allowing space for kutis (monastic meditation cabins) to allow seclusion. Ideally, some of the property would be forested. This would protect some of the dwindling forests and be a sanctuary for people and safe refuge for wildlife.

If you know of a property similar to this or have other leads, we are open to your suggestions.

The main aim of the property is to create a monastery, where monastics can dedicate their lives fully to the Dhamma. This requires there to be secluded places of practice and study as well as places where monastics can meet to receive meal offerings and share Dhamma.

Another aim is to create a place where laypeople can come to practice during scheduled hours and join the monastics for programs. The property will be a sanctuary for people to come for quiet, reflection, and meditation.

With a detached meditation hall and clearly defined public and private areas, the property will support both the growth of monastics and sanctuary for community practice and development.

Join us in this noble venture.
